Burger31 Chess
Safety, privacy, and transparency

Safety & Trust

Burger31 Chess is an independently operated, free browser chess game. This page explains what the site does, what player information it uses, and the protections built into accounts and community features.

No download or payment is required

Bot games, local two-player games, lessons, and puzzles run in a modern web browser. Avatar items use earned virtual coins; Burger31 Chess does not ask for a card to play.

Account security

  • Passwords are stored as salted, one-way password hashes—not readable passwords.
  • Sessions use secure, HTTP-only cookies over HTTPS.
  • Optional passkeys and authenticator codes add stronger sign-in protection.
  • A new device can request approval from a Burger31 Chess page already signed into the account.
  • Google and Microsoft sign-in are optional; a username-and-password account is also available.

Information used

  • Guest play works without creating an account.
  • Accounts store a username, game rating and record, virtual coins, avatar choices, and security settings.
  • If you link Google or Microsoft, the site stores the provider identity needed to recognize that sign-in.
  • Saved guest and local games may be kept in your browser so play can resume after reconnecting.

Player controls

  • Players can manage linked sign-in methods and profile privacy from the Account page.
  • Community tools include blocking and reporting.
  • Non-owner users can permanently delete their own account and associated profile data from the Account page.
  • Administrators use role-based permissions; protected actions are checked on the server.

Community safety

  • Live-room chat is available to signed-in players and uses automated language moderation.
  • Repeated chat violations can lead to longer chat bans.
  • Reports are reviewed through protected moderation tools.
  • Never share your password, authenticator code, recovery codes, or private contact details in chat.

Transparency

Burger31 Chess publishes an ongoing release archive describing player-visible changes and fixes. The About page explains the game, and public learning pages can be used without signing in. The site is served through Cloudflare with a valid HTTPS certificate and browser security headers.
